Prof Dr Peter Verdonk studied medicine at Ghent University (UGENT) where he graduated in 1999 with greatest distinction. After his specialization in orthopedics at the Municipal Hospital Roeselare (Dr L Van den daelen) and UZGENT (Prof Dr R Verdonk), he further qualified in knee surgery with Prof Dr J Bellemans (KULeuven) and Prof Dr Ph Neyret (Lyon, France). He also obtained his PhD at Ghent University on the subject of 'The human meniscus: Characterisation, Tissue Engineering and Transplantation' with Prof Dr G Verbruggen. In 2004 and 2007 he was selected for the prestigious Traveling Fellowship of the "International Cartilage Repair Society" and the "European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy" with long stays in various renowned orthopedic centers in the USA.
Prof Dr Peter Verdonk specializes in orthopedic surgery of the knee joint with a focus on prosthetic surgery as well as repair of cruciate ligaments, ligaments, cartilage and meniscus through soft tissue reconstruction and arthroscopy.
He is a full-time knee specialist at the Antwerp Orthopedic Center (www.orthoca.be) of the Monica Hospitals Antwerp and Deurne . He is visiting professor at the Antwerp University Department of Orthopedics since January 1, 2015 . He is also Visiting Surgeon at Aspetar Sports Medical Center in Doha, Qatar. He previously worked as head of the clinic at Ghent University Hospital (2006-2012), as a consultant at the Municipal Hospital Roeselare (2006-2012) and as senior lecturer at UGENT, Department of Physical Medicine and Orthopedics (2011-2016).
He is the author of more than 100 international publications and regularly speaks at home and abroad.
He is an active member of numerous scientific associations (ESSKA, ISAKOS, ICRS, BVOT, BKS, YSOS) and is a researcher in various international trials with the aim of further developing the latest technologies.
